Aerating

To create a lawn that is thick and healthy, aerating can only benefit your lawn. Creating an environmentally healthy lawn is key. You want to make sure that not only the blades of grass are healthy but the soil and the root systems as well. Aerating will promote healthy roots and grass.

When having your lawn aerated, there are spike system which will poke holes in the soil or you may have heard of core aeration, which creates plugs and pulls plugs of soil out of the ground. This allows for good water and nutrient absorption. It will also allow for oxygen to get to the root system for better growth.

Aeration is usually done once a year, sometimes twice depending on your needs. You will find that lawns that do not get this done, are not as green, no matter what you do. You will be allowing for the improvement of air to reach the soil and the root system and gas exchanges, which is important for the roots to expand and grow. Pests and disease can grow in the thatch preventing valuable nutrients from getting down into the soil. It is important to aerate if your lawn as an excess of thatch buildup as well.

Different types of lawn treatments that do go well when you do aerate:Thatching
  • Fertilization
  • Over sedding
  • Liming
Aerating, will thicken the turf for a beautiful looking lawn.
